March Newsletter

Dear Oceanside Little League families,

I am happy to welcome Terri Roberts to our Board of Directors. Terri was voted in unanimously at our February meeting. Terri's energy and positive attitude will be a great addition to our League. Thank you in advance for your time and service this season Terri.

The deadline for major and minor division registrations is less than two weeks away (March 22nd)! While registration numbers have been growing, we are still well below our normal number of participants.  Please consider registering sooner rather than later. The earlier registrations are completed the earlier league officials can prepare for the season.

The weather has been steadily improving and we have been ramping up our activities. New equipment is being ordered, volunteers are being recruited, and schedules are being drafted. At the latest Board of Director’s meeting the membership voted to approve the purchase of a new batting cage for Gordon Field and new catcher’s equipment for our major league baseball and softball teams!

We are currently looking for a volunteer to help with our lower level programs. In past years we have heard the lower levels seem to be neglected, to some extent. Once the season gets going our major divisions generally take most of the Board of Director's attention causing the lower levels to suffer in terms of communication and time invested.  We are looking for someone to be the point of contact for the t-ball and minor divisions. This person(s) would work in conjunction with the League President and Board of Directors with team selections, coach recruitment, scheduling, and other league activities. We are essentially looking for someone to keep the board of directors accountable for providing an enjoyable season for kids and parents.  If this is something you may like to learn more about please reach out at [email protected], and we’d be happy to talk more about it.

Evaluation day is March 25th for St. George residents. All St. George registrants must attend the evaluation day to be chosen for a team. Softball will begin at 2:45pm and baseball will begin at 4:30pm in the school gym.

Evaluations for all other communities will be on March 28th at The PITCH. Softball begins at 9am and baseball will begin at 10:30am. Returning members of last year’s 11-12 baseball teams (Elks, Lions, Fisher)  and returning members of last year's major softball teams will not be required to attend the evaluations. All other registrants ages 9-12 are required to attend. There will be an informational meeting for all interested baseball parents during the baseball tryout to discuss the changes to the division format.

Dates to remember:

March 22nd – Registration closes for major and minor divisions at 11:59pm

March 25th – Major Division Evaluation day for St.George Residents in the St. George School Gym. Softball starts at 2:45pm, Baseball starts at 4:30pm. (All registrants ages 9-12 must attend)

March 28th – Major Division Evaluation Day at The PITCH for all Rockland, Thomaston, So.Thomaston, Owl’s Head, and Cushing residents. Softball starts at 9am, Baseball starts at 10:30.

Respectfully,

Davin Putansu
League President
